Spring Seedings
We prefer to seed in the fall and only seed in the spring if absolutely necessary. One major reason for a spring seeding includes a heavy leaf drop in the fall that would smother the new grass. Spring seeding’s are a challenging process in that the broadleaf and grassy weeds infiltrate and create a mess.
Fall Seedings
This is THE BEST time to seed our cool season grasses. The high soil temperature from the summer and watering create an excellent germination process. Then as the temperatures cool in the fall, the grasses thrive.
We offer several 3 methods of seeding:
Aerations
Let your lawn breathe! This is one of the best cultivation methods that you can provide for your turf. Core aeration extracts soil plugs from the root zone of the turf. This allows for water and air infiltration down into the root zone of the turf. Your grass can then basically breath better. Additionally, this relieves surface compaction and provides a form of de thatching.. The de thatching process works when the soil plugs are on top of the grass as they melt, they will decompose the thatch layer. Finally this is a method of disease prevention. Excessive thatch is a huge form of why our grasses get diseases. Less thatch means less disease.
Compost - Top Dressing
Top dressing is the process of applying compost, soil, or sand over the surface of your lawn. It has been performed on golf courses since the sport was invented in Scotland, but has only recently become popular on home lawns.
Good soil is living soil. That may sound like cliché, but it's true. One tablespoon of soil can contain billions of microorganisms. These microscopic organisms are one of the reasons we have plants and trees. In nature, soil microbes enrich soil by converting fallen leaves, limbs and other debris into nutrients plants can use. Since many home lawns have poor quality soil, top dressing can be very important. Top dressing with the materials we use is simply a way of adding organic material and restoring the microbial balance to home lawns, building better soil and improving the ability for the soil to facilitate healthy plants.
Below is a list of some of the benefits when topdressing lawns:
